Culture is carried through story, song and language. And traditionally, these things were not done in isolation.
The telling of a story, or singing of a song requires ears listening & hearts responding to become more of what it’s meant to be.
Likewise, speaking a language aloud is a two-way thing; vocal chords expressing and ears receiving sounds; nervous systems carrying these motor neurons to the brain to comprehend and derive meaning from; with an overall result of a sense of connection between seemingly separate bodies.
Pre-the written word, stories, songs & language were transmitted through these relational contexts; communities & families gathering to glean shared meaning from life experiences & the emotions they evoke.
In both ancient Celtic and Yogic mythology, it is understood that the stories we tell have the capacity to shape our perception, which in turn influences our behaviours & choices.
An inner narrative informed by myth and open to self/collective inquiry generates a devotional curiosity towards life that keeps us growing, evolving & sees past the individualism modern society is built on.
This relational context is what humans (through story & song) have evolved alongside, & that is still where they are best experienced today.
Join Aron Hegarty from Candlelit Tales, Jenny Ní Ruiséil, Caoimhín MacUaid & friends for an evening of Candlelit Kirtan; ‘Songs for the Descent’.
This will be an evening of Song, Chant & Storytelling drawing on Irish mythology & stories from Yogic philosophy to nourish the heart as we enter the darker half of the year.
Tickets €30
